Mr. David Cutler
PNA Hot Lunch Provider
Milk&Honey Catering

I am Chef David Cutler, owner and operator of Milk&Honey Catering. I began my cooking trials early on in youth at home and in restaurants as a means of gainful employment. At home I learned from both my parents, yet it was my Dad’s tutelage that stuck in my head. Passing his Fatherly advice down on cooking he exclaimed, “You are never sure how long you are going to be single, and once you meet your future wife she may not be a very good cook so, you need to learn to fend for yourself.”

I have always been passionate about different food and its taste and sought to become the best cook I could be. Eating at a multitude of fairs and festival gave me an appreciation and deepened interest in street food, which led me eventually to researching other countries daily street vendor meals.

I went the “European Style” where I apprenticed under different Chefs learning their knowledge and gaining on-the-job training, until I was pronounced a Chef in my own right. I continued cooking as a way to pay for college and my studies towards a degree in forensics. When the area of study I sought after was intangibly unavailable I had to consider other career options. On advice of family and friends I happily embraced cooking as my method of employment.

Since that pivotal decision I have labored furiously to improve all my culinary knowledge and skills. I have successfully run kitchens and restaurants for other people, had my own concession trailer business, been doing catering with wide appeal and appreciation, and working towards having my own establishment. I have became enamored with our fleeting loss of heritage cooking and have dedicated myself to its pursuits, such as cheese-making, charcuterie (making sausages, hams, salamis, etc.), pasta, root-beer, and so forth. This helps me provide a better prepared meal for people as well as preserving traditions in cooking.

Working here at Pacific Northwest Academy helps fulfill another fervency, which is working with and instructing children. My hope is to be able to offer classes or instruction in basic cooking skills, working in the garden and utilizing its bounty for dishes.  Hopefully besides eating healthy meals, some of the students will gain an appreciation and interest in cooking as well, enough at least to “fend for themselves” as they get older.
